Thirteen Things Thursday: Kids Can Make It or Break It

Welcome back Thursday! Almost to Friday! THANKFULLY! And, that much closer to all the holiday madness and school break. Speaking of madness, have you ever had or over heard the conversations children have? They gather so much information that they do not always understand what is going on, what they truly think, or even what they are saying! Here are thirteen tidbits that have come from my boys’ mouths lately:

The Boys...

Wow Me WEAK Wednesday

I spent most of my young childhood with my Mimi and Papa at their home. Needless to say many of the foundations of life and philosophies in growth formed under their roof. One of the most daunting and memorable moments of my childhood wasn’t in the memory itself but one sentence said outside of instruction. Mimi taught me how to make a bed, hospital corners and all. I asked her why it was so important to have even, perfect hospital corners on a sheet you  never see.

“We never show weakness because even the best of people will use it against you.” Read more »

Wow Me Melatonin Wednesday

It is mid-week yet again and I am exhausted. I think I look forward to the weekend the most because that means I get to sleep in… normally. Since DH has been overseas for work the kids have dealt with the stress by not sleeping. This means prego mommy doesn’t sleep. Everyone knows when a prego doesn’t sleep no one is happy the next day. Especially if that prego is Mom… Read more »

Wow Me WOWEEE Wednesday

Yup. It’s Wednesday!

Jakin has come leaps and bounds this year. (With children I for some reason think of years in terms of school years so bear with.) He finished his physical therapy and did a new evaluation. His evaluation proved that what was considerably low and uncontrolled he now has control of and the ability to do things kids his own age can’t! What a feat for six months time! (And, Yay for one less therapy!) In talking with his Occupational therapist I found she had a social group he could join. Deliriously happy I pulled him from his individual and group therapist that we were having issues with and stuck him in this new social group. This group was in a more professional setting, with appointments that would not be cancelled last-minute, and with more professional resources for children like Jakin! Jakin just wants new friends! (Who can blame him!) Read more »

“Live Long and Prosper” My Son

I think I finally figured out my 6 and a half-year old son. He isn’t Autistic. He is Vulcan. Okay, wait for the eye rolls and criticisms. I am not going to geek out on you into some nerdcore Sci-Fi. Okay, well maybe a little. Just give it a moment of your time and some thought.

A Day Late. A Dolla Short.

Let me start by saying this was Manic Monday’s post but due to weather our internet provider was on the fritz.

Plus, it is terrifying to post this.

Sometimes Life is Easier with out our Faces

I am a warm weathered person through and through. I’d be down to my skiivies  sweating my knickers off than the slightest bit cold. With all the snowy and cold weather, it’s easy to stay inside. This, however, is very bad for me. I come from a family that is very different from some. We are rebels in thinking. We are very strong in character and self. However, Anxieties, depressions, and other mental/emotional needs and issues plague us. While none of us are threats to society, we are threats to ourselves. Let me explain before you pick up the phone. We know who we are, how we are, what we want, what we need, and by all means we go after it. We know our weakness and often set ourselves in challenging positions whether realized or subconscious. Especially when it comes to people.  This is a threat upon ourselves because we analyze everything done and said, we rationalize it to the best of ability, and then all those emotions of anxiety, second guessing, even depression sneaks into the picture. Wow Me Wild Wednesday!

Taking a Walk on the Wild Side

Ever get struck with a wild idea? One so completely out of character to do, it leaves your friends thinking you’re off your rocker.  An idea so crazy that you feel adrenaline creep through your veins at the very thought. The very thought seems so unnatural that you claim it isn’t right…  What do you do if this wild idea is an OCD tendency in someone close to you?  What if that person was your middle child? Wow Me “Philosophical” Wednesday!

Welcome back to Wow Me Wednesday. This weeks topic is on the general base of philosophy. I was hoping for something more humorous but this blog has been building literally all week!

As defined by Dictionary.com, philosophy is a rational investigation of the truths and principles of being, knowledge, or conduct. (1)

I have seen SEVERAL people blow their gaskets all over another person for having a different point of view and even having a different set of “proven” facts. These erratic behaviors were provoked from religion, politics, medical, and sexuality. Though some have in fact offended myself, I find myself more saddened that people take things so personally and do not see the opportunity these differences open.  As I mentioned to a woman today, Read more »

Holy strawberries Batman! We’re in a jam!

Three boys. Cars, animals, and building/destroying blocks were of Jakin’s main interest while growing-up. That is till Bam became OBSESSED with super heroes. So now we pretty much have all the basic boy stuff covered; just have to introduce them to competitive sports and fishing! ;)  I have read a few articles about young boys and super heroes. Most of them say to watch out for today’s view on super hero movies because of the adult content and excessive violence. However, one article I read, and I wish I could find it, said that you should let boys act it all out in play. Let them be the super hero, the villain, the by standard. This type of play helps them recognize right and wrong, success and defeat, power and struggle, and all those emotions involved in between. I could see what this article was saying but all my mind was saying is, “come test it out on my family.” Read more »

SHABLOGGIN!

I have been in a weird place lately. Not necessarily a rut, the place I am at seems to be the calm before the storm. A cross-road is a very tricky thing in life. If you stand and wonder the outcomes for each you will forget which road(s) you might have already come down. If you rush on a new road without proper time for judgement, you may choose the wrong path. Sometimes there is a push in the right direction. Sometimes there is just tumble weeds. Sometimes there is no support system only your gut instinct. Sometimes there is a full support system with no clue how you got where you are or what to do next… AHHH life :) The choice will be made soon enough. I know I have grown and changed drastically over the last year. I have discovered parts of me that now complete a puzzle of past and give a new piece to the future. I have met the most wonderful and supportive man who wants to someday marry me and I, truly, feel the same. My children are growing and are becoming more of what I have always wanted to instill in them (holding my breath for those teenage years…) New friends and soul mates have found their paths along mine. Old friends are fading into the back ground. I am left standing here feeling disconnected at best. Read more »
