I originally wrote this piece a year to the day. On Thursday, April 14, 2o11 my boys and myself were hunkered down in my Mimi’s closet with a Tornado in a town over and rotation a mile away. Sadly, today we are in a high risk situation and local stations are saying the storms tonight are life threatening. Living in tornado alley can be a very sad and scary adventure. However, being born and raised here adds a special kind of charisma to the culture. Here is the side of Tornado Alley most people will never understand, unless it is in your blood:

Being Oklahoma born and raised has taught me so much about the way weather works and how it affects the people experiencing it. Tornado Alley is a pretty exciting place… Not because of the storms, the people are way more titillating. Don’t believe me? Here are the top thirteen lessons of being a Tornado Alley resident:

I suggest you don’t read or listen to the songs in this post with children around. Or, you could have the equivalent of my mother pushing a grocery cart with me singing I Want Your Sex by George Michael at the top of my lungs… True Story.

It is finally Thursday and the start of the party! This is around the time adults can go out and let loose of the heavy responsibility and have some fun. And, if they are lucky, they have some fun with business time. Don’t know what business time is? Well, once you have children who know their letters and the sounds they make, parents come up with a code. This code, be it words or phrases, keeps children innocent and naive to adult conversation. Thankfully, Flight of the Conchords came up with a phrase for adult sexy time called Business Time. Heck, they even wrote a song about it! 

So, a song came on in the car on our daily commute at 6 AM and it sparked a conversation about Business Time songs and ones that we find surprisingly sexy. There are tons of songs over the decades that are, inspire, make you feel, and allude the sexiness of business time. We all know the Frank Sinatra, Marvin Gaye, Barry White, Boys II Men type songs. They are classic. They are the roots of business time. And, they are the instant go-to to spice up the night in hopes of a little action. I almost want to call you out on the douche-baggery of automatically thinking its a sure thing. So, here are some songs to add a little flavor to your mix of inspirational mood setters. These are a collection from many sources and of many different  people’s tastes.  There are more but we’ll start with what I’ll call the Dirty13:

For a Thursday, today sure has been a busy day. Good thing, it should lead to clear sailing through Friday and into the weekend.  It wasn’t just an ordinary day but it was the day  full of cupcake pickup and drop-offs, end of year school concerts, pay-day aka bill pay-day, phone calls, rescheduling the schedule for summer, etc… So here are the thirteen things that have come out of this day:

Ok so if you didn’t know, I am now around five months pregnant with baby IV. Pregnancy and the creation of life is an amazing thing. With all great things comes great toil and responsibility. Thank GOODNESS it is Thursday! One more day of slave labor than we can curl up and snuggle our worries away! Right? WRONG! I am not much of a cuddler.
